Hi Angela,

You’ve specifically stated paint rather than just a protective surface, so that excludes polyurethane. You can buy non-slip paint, but I’m unclear about the bridge construction. If it has handrails, I’m not sure you want the non-slip component all over those. So here are a few options.

If the bridge is simply flat timbers over which to walk or drive, there are products designed just for that purpose. This TotalBoat product might work for you: https://geni.us/K24Pg or this non-slip decking paint: https://geni.us/1uGVjeP.

If the bridge has handrails, you can buy an additive that makes ordinary oil or latex-based paints non-slip. It’s effectively finely-ground pumice. You can paint the handrails and other bridge components that don’t require non-slip capabilities in your chosen paint and color, then add this product to the paint you use on the areas you require to be non-slip: https://geni.us/23Cz00

If you choose the additive option, simply select an oil-based exterior paint.

If you do decide to go for a clear polyurethane, select an oil-based one: https://geni.us/JFgodRs
