Making a mirror frame out of cedar and red oak. Any recommendations for the best finish?

Hello Mark, My preference for both kinds of wood is Tung Oil. While it slightly darkens both kinds of wood, it’s a hard drying oil that nourishes the wood while sealing it from moisture. You could varnish or polyurethane it, but frankly, encasing such beautiful timber in plastic grates a little with me. This product is popular and pure:  https://geni.us/74m8
