Painting over a wax finish

Questions From Our VisitorsCategory: SealersPainting over a wax finish
TK Mills asked 3 years ago

I have just stripped our old kitchen table and applied an oil and wax finish.  As the table is rather heavily used I see that my beautiful work may be spoiled as the wax finish is easily marked.
What is a good durable coating I can put onto the recently waxed table?

Hello.
My recommendation would be to remove the wax layer and apply a transparent poly topcoat as wax should always be used as the final topcoat.
Now, anything you coat will hardly adhere to the surface due to the wax coating. You can apply this product after removing the wax coating.
