Juniper wood

JUDY P CHEETHAM asked 1 year ago

We had a huge juniper tree tip over and saved some good slabs; we want to build an outdoor bench for the family cemetery. what kind of finish should we use to protect from the sun and rain?

Hi Judy, thanks for your query. Juniper wood is naturally rot and insect-resistant, so it\’s a great timber for outdoor use. Woodworkers have had a lot of discussions about the best finish for Juniper. Spar urethane is your best bet for keeping the color and protecting the timber. Minwax does a good product in their Helmsman range. I\’m unsure about your finish, but you can choose satin, semi-gloss, or gloss. Here’s a link.
